Maggie Gyllenhaal, born November 16, 1977 in Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York City, New York, is an American actress, director and producer. She stars in The Deuce as Eileen "Candy" Merill. She appeared in all three seasons of the show from 2017 to 2019. She was also a producer for The Deuce throughout its run.
She is known for the films Secretary (2002), Stranger Than Fiction (2006), The Dark Knight (2008) and Crazy Heart (2009). She was nominated for the Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Jean Craddock in Crazy Heart. She starred in the Sundance TV miniseries The Honorable Woman in 2014.
Following on from The Deuce Gyllenhaal adapted the film The Lost Daughter (2021) from a novel by Elena Ferrante. Gyllenhaal also directed the film, which starred Olivia Colman. Gyllenhaal was nominated for the Oscar Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Lost Daughter.
